Knowing he was going to die in less than twenty four hours, Jesus focused on ensuring his disciples were prepared for his departure. By washing his disciples' feet, Jesus humbled himself and his action teaches us to serve others humbly rather than expecting others to wait on us. The washing of feet mirrors our frequent need for cleansing from our shortcomings. Jesus’ actions also foreshadowed his dying on the cross, where he took our sins upon himself, saved us and showed us his grace where we might be made whole. Jesus' teaching of selfless love, where he lays down his life, is the standard and source of how our love is measured.
