God our Father loves us so much that He turned His face and light from His Son, Jesus. There was darkness over the whole land from noon to three in the afternoon and Jesus asked God, “Why have you forsaken me?” The suffering of Jesus on the cross was far greater than just the horror of crucifixion. Jesus bore our guilt and sins and was literally God forsaken on our behalf. Jesus died with a loud cry for us so that we could be restored to a relationship with God. As He died, the curtain of the temple was torn in two pieces. No more barriers but direct access to God. The Roman official witnessing Jesus death stood in awe and came to the conclusion that He must be the Son of God.
