Discipleship | Sermon Series
Part 1: Being Disciples
Discipleship isn't a program or a checklist. It's a lifelong journey of connecting with Jesus, growing in him, and living on mission as you go about your everyday life.
Alvin Adds
We just kicked off our Discipleship series, and really the main aim of this series is to spur conversations about what is the next step that God is challenging you to take in your walk with him.
Some people might feel overwhelmed by that challenge, so it might be helpful to share some of your own struggles in obeying God and stepping out in your Discipleship journey, and what helped you!
It might also help to try to guide your discussions towards a clear concrete next step for their Discipleship journey, whether that might be in the Connect, Grow, or Go & Multiply categories (or for next week, Reach & Recruit, Raise, & Release categories).
Another direction you might want to take is to help them identify one person whom they can 'apprentice' or model their life on for the season. It could be someone they know or a Christian public figure, as long as it's someone ahead of them in their Discipleship journey, you can then challenge them to "imitate them as they imitate Christ".
Additional resources:
If you're not using our resources but you're looking for something to try that is still aligned to what we are doing in this season, this is the section to look!
For this season, you can try Disciple-Making Disciples by Life Church! It's a 7 session plan that consists of a short devotional, some readings, and a discussion question for each session. You may even want to do more than 1 session for each of your meetings if you move fast, or incorporate this as a daily reading plan as a CG!
If you're looking to do a Bible study in this season, you can consider going through Mark 1-8. It’s action-oriented and focuses on the literal "Way of the Cross" and walking with Jesus. It's the perfect section for a group wanting to see the "apprenticeship" model in real-time.
